Dr Rao graduated (MBBS) from University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi in 1991, obtained his Masters in Surgery (MS) from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore and then did a year of senior residency in Cancer Surgery at Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi. He later received his Fellowship in Transplantation Surgery from Australian National Liver Transplantation Unit, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, Australia. He shifted to Hong Kong to acquire further training in Hepato Pancreato Biliary (HPB) surgery and Liver transplantation at the Prince of Wales Hospital, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. After a stint at these centre’s of excellence for over 9 years ,Dr Rao shifted to Bangalore in 2005 and practices Surgical Gastroenterology and specializes in HPB surgery (diseases including cancers of Liver, Gall bladder, Bile ducts and Pancreas) at MS Ramaiah Memorial Hospital and MS Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore, India. Dr Rao has over 40, mainly international publications to his credit including seminal work in the area of viral transfer in Bioartificial liver. and speaks at national and international conferences. Dr. Rao also involves in Clinical trials and is presently engaged with the industry in innovating/creating surgical instruments and technologies.
